What do you publish?
Essays, personal scent stories, niche brand profiles, interviews, experimental fragrance writing, perfume diaries, op-eds on scent culture, prose/poetry. If it has to do with olfaction, its fair game.
What don’t you publish?
Ultimately, Heart Note Press aims to be fluid and ephemeral. We like to think of it like dumping the contents of your purse onto the floor, and worry about the sorting later. That being said, we don’t want mainstream fragrance coverage without critical thought.
Do I have to be a writer to pitch an idea?
Anyone who writes is a writer. If we choose to publish your piece, the editor will act as a coach, there to cheer you on along the way while providing constructive feedback.
Can I send you a piece I’ve already finished?
Yes! If you have a draft or finished piece, feel free to send it our way.
Do you respond to DM’s?
If you’re hoping for a prompt reply, email us at heartnotepress@gmail.com. DM’s are not regularly monitored.
Do I have to use the Google Form to pitch or can I email you?
For now, all formal pitches will go through the Google Form. Down the road this format may change— follow us on Instagram to stay in the loop.
Do you pay contributors?
Contributors are paid through the currency of Love and Appreciation.
